The world is changing—and the world’s most iconic off-road luxury SUVs are changing right along with it. Currently, the Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport are both available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain that offers impressive power and equally impressive savings at the pump. If you’re curious about what the future has in store, we’ve got you covered. The current lineup already includes two Rover PHEV SUVs as well as “mild-hybrid” vehicles—and an all-electric Range Rover will join the lineup in 2024!
Land Rover’s capable Range Rover plug-in hybrid powertrain continues to offer all of the capability that buyers and lessees expect from a Land Rover SUV—but it also offers an efficient parallel driving mode and the ability to travel on electric power alone!
Here’s a closer look at the Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport plug-in hybrid performance specs:
If you’d like to be one of the first to bring home a plug-in hybrid Land Rover, you can configure the model of your choice today!
If you’ve spent much time researching the Land Rover lineup, then you already know that all models except for the Range Rover Evoque and the Land Rover Discovery Sport currently offer at least one form of electrification. In most cases, this form of electrification is known as mild-hybrid technology, where an engine that does most of the heavy lifting is assisted by a small electric motor. The latter recuperates some of the energy lost during normal driving while improving acceleration.
Mild hybrids are generally more efficient than their gas-powered counterparts, but they’re not as efficient as the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport plug-in hybrid vehicles.
Land Rover PHEV mpg ratings and output metrics are sure to impress—but does Range Rover have an electric car available today? Not quite yet—for fully electric versions of the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, Ridgewood and Jersey City drivers will need to wait until model-year 2024.
After that milestone, things really start to heat up. The brand plans to launch no fewer than six battery electric vehicles by 2026—although gas, hybrid, and fully electric vehicles will all continue to be offered for years to come. By 2036, Land Rover plans to deal exclusively in electric vehicles.
