Should you buy a Defender 90 or a 110? Both models are offered at several different price points, and each can be had with a wide range of trims and engines. However, the two-door Defender 90 tends to be less expensive than its counterpart. Their starting prices reflect the general trend:

• 2022 Land Rover Defender 90: Starting at $47,700 MSRP (New)
• 2022 Land Rover Defender 110: Starting at $50,500 MSRP (New)

Defender 90 vs. 110: Dimensions & Seating Capacity

Both models can seat either five or six passengers, depending on whether or not you equip your choice with the optional first-row center jump seat. However, unlike the Defender 90, the Defender 110 also gives you the option to equip a third-row bench seat! 

This means that the Defender 110 is a better choice for drivers who want to plan more outings for their friends and family:

• Defender 90 Seating Capacity: 5 (standard) or 6 (with optional first-row jump seat)
• Defender 110 Seating Capacity: 5 (standard), 6 (with optional first-row jump seat), or seven (with an optional third row)

Naturally, the larger Land Rover Defender 110 also provides more space for your gear and cargo:

• Defender 90 Cargo Space: 15.6 cubic feet behind the 2nd row, 58.3 cubic feet behind the 1st row
• Defender 110 Cargo Space: 34.0 cubic feet behind the 2nd row, 78.8 cubic feet behind the 1st row

Although you’ll lose a little bit of this space if you choose the seven-passenger configuration of the Defender 110, the latter always offers more space than the 90.

Defender 90 vs. 110: Off-Road Geometry

Both models offer up to 11.4 inches of ground clearance with optional air suspension, and both models can handle an extraordinary range of off-road conditions thanks to standard features like Terrain Response®. However, experienced off-roaders know that choosing a shorter model can make some obstacles easier to navigate. The proof is in the numbers:

• Defender 90 Ramp Breakover Angle: 25 degrees (coil suspension), 24.2 – 31 degrees (air suspension)
• Defender 110 Ramp Breakover Angle: 23 degrees (coil suspension), 22 – 27.8 degrees (air suspension)

Even if you’re not worried about maneuvering on Ridgewood and Jersey City city streets, you may find that the Defender 90 is better suited to your favorite slopes and trails. Although the Defender 90 and the Defender 110 have equivalent approach and departure angles,the 90 can surmount certain inclines more effectively.
