Luxury and Features: Range Rover Velar vs. Lexus RX 350

The Lexus is perfectly fine, as far as luxury midsize SUVs go. With that said, it’s no Land Rover. Its interior quality pales in comparison to the Range Rover line’s avant-garde SUV, the Velar. Even comparing the less-expensive Range Rover Evoque vs. Lexus RX 350 still makes the Range Rover look good. The Evoque aside, though, here’s a brief overview of the features that set the Velar vs. RX apart:

  • Infotainment: Comparing the base trim of this Range Rover to the Lexus RX 350, you’ll see that the latter only offers an 8-inch LCD display as standard. By contrast, every Velar offers a Pivi Pro™ infotainment system with two 10-inch touchscreens.
  • Audio Quality: The Lexus includes a 9-speaker audio system as standard, while the Land Rover offers a premium 13-speaker Meridian™ Sound System. You can get a 15-speaker upgrade in the RX, but it falls short of the standard set by the optional upgrade in the Velar: a 17-speaker Meridian™ Surround Sound System with Trifield™ 3D technology.
  • Comfort and Material: Synthetic NuLuxe® leatherette may satisfy some passengers, but many will prefer the genuine perforated grained leather in the Velar. You’ll have to pay extra for driver memory technology in the Lexus RX, but it’s standard in the Velar.
  • Driver Awareness: The Lexus RX provides you with a standard Backup camera with Dynamic Gridlines–standard fare, even among non-luxury models. In the Velar, you get a 3D Surround View Camera in every trim.

We should also point out that any driver who compares Lexus RX vs. Range Rover Velar will encounter comparable differences on the outside, too. The Velar offers many standard features that cost extra on the Lexus RX, including 19-inch wheels, Premium LED headlights, and heated side mirrors.

Looking for additional savings? Comparing the Lexus RX 350 vs. Range Rover Evoque could be a great place to start, since this compact Range Rover SUV offers many of the same features identified above!

Power and Capability: Range Rover Velar vs. Lexus RX 350

With 295 hp and a standard V6 engine, there’s no way to deny the fact that the RX offers plenty of power. Still, the Velar SUV’s standard 247-hp I4 is more than sufficient for daily drives through Ridgewood and Jersey City. However, this isn’t the whole story:

  • Engine Upgrade: The base-level Range Rover Velar also offers a 335-hp I6 MHEV powertrain. This is already more power than you can get any Lexus RX model available today.
  • Range-Topping Engine: If you’re looking for even more potent performance, upgrade to the Velar R-DYNAMIC HSE trim level. It offers a 395-hp MHEV powertrain that can take you from 0-60 in just 4.9 seconds. Even the fastest RX only offers a sluggish 7.7-second 0-60 time that just won’t satisfy enthusiasts.
  • Exclusive Performance Features: Terrain Response® 2 and All-Terrain Progress Control are two indispensable features that you can only get on the Range Rover Velar. If you want to be confident when you break free from the beaten path, it’s the only reasonable choice.
